Perfect for building confident and competent pilots, our mountain flying course is conducted in the Maluti Mountains as well as in the Drakensburg, both within minutes of our airport.

  • Skills Outcomes

You will be exposed to mountain waves, mountain turbulence, and up and down drafts and will be taught how to negotiate these, how to use them to your advantage and the ever present dangers to be aware of. The course will also present low level training between the valleys, which in itself is a breathtaking experience.

Due to the high elevation of our airfield you will automatically be exposed to degraded performance of aircraft and the effects of density altitude, factors seldom actually experienced by many pilots but which are encountered daily at Paramount Aviation Academy.

Mountain flying is not for the faint at heart, but it’s the perfect course to help you become a much more competent, confident and safe pilot.

  • Other Benefits

Not only will mountain flying expose you to a whole new set of skills, but you will also be treated to and experience the wonders of the Eastern Free State from the air, with the following being some of the highlights:

     - The amphitheatre in the Drakensberg Mountains

Katse Dam and Mont-Aux-Sources, the highest mountain peak in South Africa.

     - You will also experience Golden Gate in all its splendour with its bizarre rock formations and the brilliant colours and rolling grasslands.

     - You will fly over the Tugela Falls, the second highest waterfall in the world located between the Drakensberg Mountains.

     - The course allows you, in a short time, to see the spectacular sights of the Eastern Free State and the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho.
